 "Tech Support"

This is from a web comic called XKCD, you can see the website here.

Warning: this comic occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors).

Photoshopped or Not?

At Ottertude we do not use photoshop, though we have posted images which were known to be photoshopped. These edited images are typically comical, unlikely images, posted under humor, and often identified as being “shopped”.

———————————-

Because of the widespread use of digital manipulation, editing digital pictures has never been easier. And, because image manipulation happens at the pixel level, detection is not as easy as it was before the digital era. Many times we see unusual or unlikely images on the web, and in some cases these images turn out to be altered using Photoshop or some other image editing software. Edited images can be exposed by algorithms that detect discrepancies or statistical irregularities at the bit level. Now you can determine whether an image is taken by a digital camera or is edited – by using Photoshopped Image Killer.

"Portrait Professional"

You can check any image to see if it has been altered, and learn more about / download a free trial of Portrait Professional, the portrait enhancement plugin for Adobe® Photoshop®, if you visit the Photoshopped Image Killer Website. Thanks to Henry and Carolina for this information.

This was a great advertising campaign by BMW, explaining why they don’t build front wheel drive cars.

Over Clocked

"Overclocked"

Yep, that’s somewhat over clocked. You may want to keep that puppy in the refrigerator.

Big Numbers

Michael Jordan, having “retired” with $40 Million in endorsements, makes $178,100 a day, working or not.

If he sleeps 7 hours a night, he makes $52,000 every night while sleeping.

If he goes to see a movie, it will cost him admission, but he’ll make $18,550 while he’s there.

He makes $7,415 per hour more than minimum wage. (Around $123 per minute.)

If he wants to save up for a new Acura NSX ($90,000) it will take him 12 hours.

He will probably pay around $200 for a round of golf, but he’ll make $33,390 while he plays.

He will make about $19.60 while watching the 100 Meter Dash in the Olympics, $15,600 watching the Boston Marathon.

This year, he’ll make more than twice as much as all Past US Presidents for all of their terms combined.

Amazing, isn’t it?

However, If he saves all of this money for the next 500 years, he’ll still have less than Bill Gates has at this very moment.

Game over. The nerd wins.

Watson Wins Jeopardy!

"Watson"

Last night in the final round of man v. machine on JeopardyIBM’s supercomputer Watson wasted little time in beating its human counterparts on the show, which was the third and final espisode that was filmed on the Yorktown Heights, NY campus of the research facility where Watson lives.  In the end, Watson earned a total of $77,147 while human contestants Ken Jennings won $24,000 and  Brad Rutter won $21,600.

So what’s next for Watson?

There’s a great NYConvergence article here.

Also, Computerworld wrote this about Watson’s application to the medical industry, which was one of the key motivations in Watson’s development at IBM.
